Introduction
Sprint Vector(SV), developed by Survio, was an impulse purchase after hearing lots of rave reviews about it. I had to go through a lot of trouble just to get it from the US store. Luckily it was all worth it. From the same studio that brought us Raw Data, Sprint Vector is a completely different genre from their debut title. To describe it would be like a combination of Mario Kart and it’s zany obstacle race course with the gameplay of Mirror’s Edge powered by the Move controllers.
Gameplay
SV is essentially a racing game where players are required to swing their arms with the move controllers in order to “sprint” in the game. This coupled with some of the other moves allows the player to jump, wall climb and even soar through the levels like Superman. The graphics are reminiscent of Jet Set radio with its colourful cel shaded tracks and characters. Despite being a VR title, Sprint Vector is a very frenzied and fast paced game. Not only do you have to keep your arms swinging to sprint you’ll also have to look out for power ups, short cuts and other obstacle along the track. Although the action is dizzying sometimes, I never felt any motion sickness throughout my play time.
Mechanics
Utilizing their proprietary Fluid Locomotion™ control scheme, many of the moves that may seem complicated at first is actually very natural once you get used to it. See a wall up front ? Reach out and scale it as if it’s a real wall. Once you’ve mastered all the moves, racing a track in SV feels like a super hero’s workout! The experience of weightlessness as you scale up walls or jumping through the obstacles is simply incredible. Players are strongly recommended to master all the tutorial lessons to unlock the full potential of the game.
The sound track is a mix of techno and funk used to good effect with the neon lit landscape of Sprint Vector. Nothing is out of place in terms of the level design, aesthetics and score in the game. With 12 tracks and multiplayer options, Sprint Vector offers a lot of playtime and content at a great price. Every race is sure to give you a good workout and don’t forget to hydrate yourself every once in a while.
