More Useful Mac Apps : Remote Work Edition

Continuing with the theme of useful Mac apps, this time we look at apps to cope with the remote work during this lockdown period.

Zoom

Despite the controversy surrounding them, Zoom’s popularity continues to climb as a the de facto for group video conferencing software. Zoom’s simplicity in setting up video meetings and availability on web, desktop Windows or Mac and mobile devices makes it one of the best choice for many corporations. It offers screen sharing, recordings, webinar sessions and a host of other features. Even after several recent updates to alleviate privacy concerns, I will recommend that you read Zoom’s best practice for securing your meetings before rolling out your Zoom policies.

Hand Mirror

With the growing need to use video calls, Hand Mirror offers users a quick preview of your webcam’s view. This lets you quickly check your surroundings and also making sure you look presentable in front of your audiences.  Once you’re back to working in an office this could be useful as rear view mirror app. Note: The latest version currently only supports macOS Catalina as of writing but older versions are available for downloads.

There

There helps you quickly check for your team mate’s availability based on their current timezones. Depending on your team’s distribution and remote policies, it helps to know if your mate is available before placing that video call or Slacking them. While still in development, their Team features offers conflict resolution capabilities and more. I’m certainly looking forward to how they can innovate in this space.
